I've weighed all that has been written or said upon the
Subject, and borrow'd from other Authors what I found
agreeable to Reason and Experience; taking Care to fetch
in and bundle up what I found stragling in their bulky
Writings, and not easy to come at. Not that this
Performance is only a Collection. tho' I would not be
troubled if the World thought so, since 'tis not
Vainglory, but the encouragement of Florists
(Herbalists) that I have in view. He who considers it
narrowly, will find that Collection was not my only Task
and I have pointed to such things that are not to be met
with elsewhere.
